Graham Foy is a writer, director and photographer based in Toronto, Canada. His films, which often explore themes of connection, nature and loss, have been praised widely by critics, awarded and shown at festivals around the world including Cannes, Venice, Toronto, New York Film Festival and MoMA / Lincoln Center’s New Directors / New Films.

“Foy arrives as a filmmaker with an indisputable gift for atmosphere and a forthright faith in the potential of cinema to grasp the ungraspable, say the unsayable, and strive for meaning out beyond the edges of everything we traditionally believe to be meaningful.” - JESSICA KIANG, VARIETY

His debut feature film The Maiden was awarded numerous prizes including the Cinema of The Future prize at the 2022 Venice film festival, the FIPRESCI Prize, Youth Jury Prize, Rainer Werner Fassbinder Prize (special mention) at the International Film Festival Mannheim-Heidelberg, Grand Prize at Festival du Nouveau Cinéma and runner up for the International Cinephile Society award for best debut feature film of 2023.

“A haunting that feels like a generational cri de coeur.” - MANOHLA DARGIS, THE NEW YORK TIMES

He has been commissioned to direct films for international brands including Hermes, Hugo Boss, Stella McCartney, Expedia, Heineken, CNN and many more.

“When I saw The Maiden at the Venice Film Festival, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the excitement I felt at discovering Gus Van Sant and Kelly Reichardt for the first time. Like them, the Canadian newcomer is a miniaturist, someone who creates deeper meaning out of intensely observed portraits of character and place. New Directors / New Films is really a festival of discovery, and this US premiere of The Maiden will give you a chance to say someday that you saw Graham Foy when he wasn’t yet a household name.” - JOSH SIEGEL, Curator Department of Film, MoMA
